Jenny Foldenauer Lia began her path to a design career by pursuing a Bachelors of Science in Design: Fashion,Interior and Graphic with an emphasis on Fashion Design & Technology at the University of California, Davis. While there she also studied outside of her degree taking interest in theatre and costume design. She later moved to Los Angeles and started a career in fashion manufacturing and became a Senior Fashion Accessory designer for the company, American Accessories -accessory manufacturer to Forever 21, and later became the Creative Director of the e-commerce, vintage fashion brand LA Vintage.
She obtained her MFA in Theatre Production for Costume Design at the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts). She has designed professionally in Los Angeles, New York and Colorado. Her most notable work includes costume design for:
A Noise Within's production of Mary Zimmerman's Argonautika directed by Julia Rodriguez- Elliott, Winner of Best Costume Design 2019 by the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, Pasadena Playhouse's Production of Culture Clash's Bordertown Now, directed by Teatro Campesino's Diane Rodriguez, Boston Court Pasadena & New York's Rattlestick Playwrights World Premiere production of Sheila Callaghan's Everything You Touch, winner of 2014 LA Stage Alliance Ovation Award -Best Costume Design Intimate theater, winner of the LA Drama Critics Circle 2015 - Best Costume Design award, and the 1st annual Stage Raw Theater Award for best Costume Design, and Son of Semele Ensemble's West Coast Premiere of Our Class, directed by Matthew McCray, winner of LA Weekly's Best Production Design 2013
She has assisted and Costume/Wardrobe supervised on numerous LA Theatre productions, including the preparation for the Broadway bound show Deaf West's Spring Awakening directed by Michael Arden at the Wallis Annenberg in Beverly Hills, Parfumerie directed by Mark Brokaw (2014 Ovation winner for Costume Design Large Theatre) the inaugural show for the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, and Tribes directed by David Cromer held at Center Theatre Group's Mark Taper Forum.
In addition to designing for the stage she is also a member of the IATSE local 705 Motion Picture Costumers Union.
